Julie M. Skrzat, PT, DPT PhD, is an Assistant Professor. She earned her BS, MS, and DPT degrees from Ithaca College. Upon completion of her entry-level physical therapy training, Dr. Skrzat practiced at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Her time at JHH sparked her interest in clinical research. Dr. Skrzat pursued a PhD from Temple University, where she studied muscle fatigue and recovery in patients who were critically ill. During this time, she became an APTA board certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Specialist.
Dr. Skrzat’s research interests include optimizing functional outcomes for patients who are critically ill, the use of simulation in physical therapy education, and interprofessional experiences in physical therapy education. Currently, Dr. Skrzat is collaborating with Lehigh Valley Health Network to study optimization of physical therapy treatment frequency and outcome measures in guiding discharge dispositions in patients who are acutely ill. Her work has been presented at local, state, and national conferences, and published in various journals. She is the author and editor of Clinical Case Studies Across the Medical Continuum for Physical Therapists.
Dr. Skrzat is a member of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary and Acute Care Academies of the APTA. She is currently on the Nominating Committee of the Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy.
