Schedule Notes
Classes that overlap more than one time slot may use either exam assignment. The instructor should clarify the specific day and time selected.
Final examinations will be given in the rooms in which the classes meet unless other arrangements have been made and announced to the class. According to the Faculty Handbook, “Final examinations are to be given at the date and hour assigned in the published schedule.” Special arrangements must be cleared through the University Provost’s office.
“The semester does not officially end until the last examination is completed. Examinations must be taken as scheduled except in cases of illness or other unavoidable reasons. Final critiques in art are considered examinations and are scheduled during examination week. Exceptions may be made only by petition to the Division of Student Success, the student must provide the approval of the course instructor as well as other required signatures. This petition must be submitted no later than seven weekdays before final exams begin. Unexcused absence from an examination or critique results in failure of the examination.”
If, for special reasons, a student finds it necessary to request a change of date for a final examination, an online petition must be filed with the Division of Student Success. Online petition form is available on the Registrar’s Office web page. The deadline for filing the petition is Friday, November 29, 2024.
Guideline for Exam Change Petitions
- A request by a student to reschedule an examination is to be granted in any one of the following cases:
- Two exams are scheduled at the same time.
- *Four exams are scheduled within two consecutive calendar days.
- *Three exams are scheduled on the same day.
- *The only scheduled exam is at the end of the exam week.
- There is a medical reason for not taking the exams as scheduled. (Such reason must be validated.)
- Normally, a request is not to be granted in the following cases (See (4)):
- The exam schedule is viewed by the student as an academic hardship even though it is not one of the cases cited under (1).
- An exam conflicts with an employment commitment made by the student.
- Any case not described under (1) or (2) is to be considered by the Division of Student Success, Vice Provost.
- A student whose request is not granted may submit an appeal with additional information to the Vice Provost. If this appeal is not granted, the student may appeal to the Dean of the College by petition. In this event, the decision of the Dean is final.
*Full-time students only
This petition is submitted digitally. The deadline for filing the petition is Friday, November 29, 2024.
