When the Department of Public Safety becomes aware of criminal incidents that, in the judgment of the University’s senior leadership, constitute a potential danger to the campus community, the Department of Public Safety issues a Timely Warning to notify the community. These crime alerts may be distributed via the Departments website, e-mail, and flyers, advising the nature of the crime and information pertaining to possible perpetrators.
This is not to be confused with an “Emergency Notification.” An emergency alert is notification of an immediate danger or threat to the health and safety of the community. Should an emergency alert be issued, there is no need to issue a Timely Warning, except the University must still provide the community with appropriate follow up information regarding the circumstances.
