Minor in Creative Writing
The minor in Creative Writing gives you an opportunity to write poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction and to engage in peer critique of their work.
Requirements
Credits and Courses
Five courses are required (20 credits).
Two Literature courses
- EN 199 Interpreting Literature
- A 200 level literature elective
Three Writing courses
- EN 212 Writing Poetry and Fiction
One of the following workshops:
- EN 211 Creative Nonfiction Workshop
- EN 240 Intermediate Fiction Writing
- EN 241 Intermediate Poetry Writing
OR any 300-level writing workshop. One has to be a 300-level creative writing workshop OR
- EN 388 Senior Creative Writing Seminar
English Minor
The minor in English prepares you to read critically and write clearly. It includes courses in literary interpretation and professional writing and/or creative writing.

A minimum of five courses, or 20 credits, in English above EN 199, including two literature courses and two writing courses and excluding EN201 and 202. At least one of these courses must be at the 300 level.
Professional Writing Minor
The minor in Professional Writing prepares you for specialized writing a wide variety of public and professional settings. Learn how to write and edit effectively for print and new media for a range of fields including journalism, law, health care, the non-profit sector, government, and publishing.
