Cheltenham Township Commissioners presented the students in the Spring 2017 Entrepreneurship/Gallery Apprenticeship class and renowned muralist David Guinn with a resolution during the Nov. 15 township meeting. The Commissioners cited the students’ “creative skills” and role in the mural process, and noted how the LED lighting “added the crowning touch to the contemporary piece.”

“Whereas, the dazzling result is a 90-by-14 foot collage featuring oversized images of many of Glenside’s architectural flourishes in bold colors,” the resolution stated. “The Glenside mural has been embraced by local residents and businesses as a treasured community landmark that defines Downtown Glenside’s sense of place.”

The LED mural “Bits and Pieces,” located at the Glenside Train Station underpass, is a culmination of the year-long program, “Exploring Public Art: Legacy, Community, & Innovation,” which engaged the community in a series of events about public art in fall 2016 before collaborating on the mural design in spring 2017. Key elements of the piece include the rosettes on the facade of Won Acupuncture Clinic, the lattice on the roof of Elcy’s Cafe, and the outline of a Grey Towers Castle turret on Arcadia’s campus, to name a few.
