Dr. Oatis Featured in Wiley’s Research Headlines
Dr. Carol Oatis, professor of Physical Therapy, published her research on Total Knee Replacement therapy with Wiley’s Arthritis Care & Research.
Dr. Oatis’ research, “Characteristics of Usual Physical Therapy post Total Knee Replacement (TKO) and Their Associations with Functional Outcomes,” was selected because of its insightful examination of care for knee replacement patients at physical therapy facilities.
The study notes that, “data suggest that evidence‐based interventions are under‐utilized and dosage may be insufficient to obtain optimal outcomes.”
Dr. Oatis’ TKO research stems from the subaward she received from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases to research how physical therapy plays a role in Total Knee Replacement. Working with Dr. Patricia Franklin at UMass, Dr. Oatis examined how different physical therapy practices affect patient functional outcomes after knee replacement.
