Faculty, Students Present on Biomedical Needs, Human Rights, and Male Bystander Intervention Programs
Members of the Arcadia community presented at the 2019 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting and Expo, themed “Creating the Healthiest Nation: For science. For action. For health,” which took place in Philadelphia from Nov. 2 to 6.
Four faculty members from the Public Health and Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice departments and two dual-degree Master of Public Health and Master of Medical Science students presented on a variety of topics at the conference.
Presentations included:
- Dr. Heather DeVries McClintock, assistant professor of Public Health, with Dr. Hillary Bogner from the University of Pennsylvania: “Measuring antidepressant adherence among persons with unmet non-biomedical needs.”
- Dr. DeVries McClintock and Cassidy Prewitt ’21M, MPH: “Hospital Characteristics and Hospital-Acquired Infections in the United States.”
- Dr. DeVries McClintock and Maura Franey ’21M, MPH: “A Comparative Program Analysis of Male Bystander Intervention Programs on College Campuses.”
- Dr. Comfort Z. Olorunsaiye, assistant professor of Public Health, with Dr. Hannah Degge from Coventry University in Scarborough, U.K.: “Exploring the experiences of male caregivers of obstetric fistula survivors in Nigeria.”
- Alex Otieno, assistant professor of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice: “Building a Culture of Human Rights in the Era of Populism.”
- Dr. Margaret Longacre, assistant professor of Public Health, with Dr. Carolyn Y. Fang from the Fox Chase Cancer Center: “Patient preferences for caregiver involvement in cancer care.”
The APHA Annual Meeting and Expo brings in over 13,000 attendees every year. In addition to presentations, a booth promoting the University’s Master of Public Health Program was on display.
