Dr. Tevald Featured by Foundation for Physical Therapy Research
Dr. Michael Tevald, associate professor of Physical Therapy and director of Post-Professional programs, was featured in the article “FPTR Researcher Sees Potential and Growth for the Physical Therapy Profession Amid COVID-19” by the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research.
In the article, Dr. Tevald explains how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted his ability to conduct research on physical therapy treatments for patients undergoing lung transplants, as well as the future of the physical therapy profession during a time of social distancing.
“Physical therapists have a track record of adapting to changing environments,” said Dr. Tevald. “I see no reason why this situation is any different. While telehealth has been around for a while, I think the current situation is forcing more of us to explore its possibilities. I’m certain that we will come out with innovative ideas for how we might extend our abilities to help the people.”
In 2018, Dr. Tevald received the first-ever Acute Care Research Grant from the Foundation for Physical Therapy. The $40,000 grant is for the development of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies for acute care physical therapists to address effects of surgery, hospitalization, and illness on physical function.
