Dr. Marc Brasof, associate professor of Education, was a panelist for The Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies (PCSS) 67th Annual Conference on Oct. 1. The panel, “How shall we proceed? Teaching about and during a global pandemic,” consisted of authors previously published in PCSS’ Social Studies Journal who discussed their work in the context of COVID-19. 

Dr. Brasof spoke about his article “Teaching in these politically divisive times,” which was published in the spring 2018 edition of the Social Studies Journal, and focused on an assignment given to graduate and undergraduate students at Arcadia in an advanced PreK-12 social studies methods course. The students were to pick a specific topic that is a manifestation of or exacerbated by a politically divisive climate to create research and educational resources for educators to talk to students about.

Dr. Brasof is on the board of directors for the PCSS as well as being the 2020-22 Rosemary and Walter Blankley Endowed Chair. He has published in the Journal of Educational Administration and the Journal of Educational Change and has authored two books. Dr. Brasof also received the Academic Affairs Innovative Implementation Grant for starting the School of Education’s Social Action and Justice Education Fellowship, and was awarded Ellington Beavers Fund for Intellectual Inquiry in 2019.  

The annual PCSS conference runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 24. It’s theme this year is “Expanding Citizen Voices” and will be held for free over Zoom.
