Following a year of progression on its 41 Anti-Black Racism Initiatives (ABRI), which were implemented by President Ajay Nair and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Jeff Rutenbeck in June 2020, Arcadia University faculty and staff are examining curriculum, scholarship, and professional development this summer in the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) as well as ABRI frameworks.

The Faculty Senate Work & Welfare Committee and University members who attended the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE) conference are hosting a workshop series throughout the summer to continue our anti-Black racism initiatives and JEDI efforts. The first Decolonizing the Classroom (DC) Workshop, on June 23, focused on facilitating discussion about race and racism in the classroom.

Aug. 18: Last Minute Check In to Establish a Decolonized Classroom for the Academic Year

The Work & Welfare Committee also encourages all community members to participate in a free summer workshop, Create True Racial Justice in Your Organization, which is geared toward dismantling racism at the institution.
