Arcadia University Ranks Among Top Leaders in Study Abroad 2011 Report
The Institute of International Education (IIE) kicked off International Education Week and again ranked Arcadia University among the top 10 universities in the United States for the percentage of undergraduate students studying abroad in its Open Doors 2011 report. Arcadia has been in the top 10 each year since 2004.
Arcadia University began International Education week with a packed crowd at the annual Empty Bowl Dinner, which fights hunger and homelessness in the world. On Tuesday, peace activist Jon McCourt gave voice to the people affected by the Conflict in Northern Ireland. Tonight, Celebrating Cultures will draw a huge crowd to Grey Towers Castle.
The Open Doors report is published annually by the Institute of International Education in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education and is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

- The Institute of International Education (IIE) ranks Arcadia University among the top 10 universities in the United States for the percentage of our undergraduate students studying abroad every year (November 2011). Arcadia has been in the top ten each year since 2004.
- The Overseas Security Advisory Council of the U.S. Department of State selected Arcadia University as the host for its renowned College and University Health, Safety, and Security Seminar, recognizing Arcadia’s leadership in these fields (August 2011). Arcadia has led educational programs for the Department of State for many years.
- For the fourth year in a row, Arcadia’s College of Global Studies was selected by Japan’s Long-term Educational Administration Program (LEAP) to host a intern from the Japanese Ministry of Education (July 2011).
- This month (November 2011), Arcadia was the very first university in the country to be visited by a group of 19 senior university administrators from 18 different countries in Africa and Asia on a multi-city, U.S. State Department-sponsored Leadership Program.
- The American Council on Education (ACE) recently honored Arcadia by naming us as just one of just eight universities in the country to participate in a cutting edge program focused on integrating international and domestic diversity funded by the Henry Luce Foundation called At Home in the World: Educating for Global Connections and Local Commitments (August 2011). A decade ago, ACE honored Arcadia by recognizing The College of Global Studies and the London Preview Experience as best practices.
- Arcadia was one of the very first universities in the country to receive the Senator Paul Simon Award from NAFSA, the Association of International Educators (2006); the Award is presented for overall excellence in internationalization efforts for our universities, practices, structures, philosophies, and policies.
- Arcadia also is one of a handful of colleges chosen to take part in Shared Futures, a national initiative of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The “Global Connections” emphasis of Arcadia’s innovative general education curriculum is one result of the university’s participation in this program.
- The European Association for International Education presented its highest award, for Transatlantic Leadership, to the Founding Dean of The College of Global Studies, Dr. Dennis Dutschke.
