Author James Lang to Discuss “Distracted” with Arcadia Community
The Arcadia community is invited to a Zoom discussion with guest speaker James M. Lang, Ph.D., about his new book “Distracted: Why Students Can’t Focus and What You Can Do About It.”
The discussion will begin at noon on Sept. 23. Register for the event here.
Keeping students focused can be a challenge in a world that is filled with distractions. Lang pulls from research in education and the science of attention, as well as from classroom observations and works of poets and philosophers, to shift our thinking about the problem of distraction in the classroom. Ultimately, he is making the case that efforts should be made to cultivate student attention instead of trying to eliminate distractions.
“Lang’s lucid prose and dry wit make for a pleasant reading experience, and his evidence is consistently on-point,” according to a review in Publisher’s Weekly noted in a review. “Teachers and parents teaching at home will find inspiration and insight in this sterling study of ‘the crucial connection between attention and learning.’”
This book can be purchased on Amazon.com or wherever books are sold.
This discussion is sponsored by Arcadia’s Digital Learning Services. Anyone with questions about the event can email DLS@arcadia.edu.
