Members of Arcadia’s Criminal Justice Debate team took home several awards during their first competition in the Intercollegiate Criminal Justice Debate at West Chester University on April 21.

The eight-member team finished fourth out of eight participating schools in debating “Should convicted felons lose the right to vote?”, while winning the Spirit Award and placing 3-3 in head-to-head debates in the round-robin tournament. John Carr ’18 won third place for his individual performance among the 60 student debaters.

Schools participating in the Intercollegiate Criminal Justice Debate included Chestnut Hill University, Delaware State University, Drexel University, Penn State-Berks, Rowan University, Villanova University, and West Chester University. Dr. Anne Mahar, assistant professor of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice, and Helen Miamidian, adjunct professor of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice, served as judges for the contest, and alumna Brianna-Rae Caprio ’17 served as Score Verifier during the event.
