Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Dr. Favian Guertin-Martin was featured by UK-based Pellicle Magazine in a July 14 article focusing on Forest & Main Brewing Company in Ambler. 

Writer Anne Wallentine digs into the history and inner workings of Forest and Main Brewing Company, including the unique brewing and fermenting process and the handmade art that decorates the cans. Wallentine compares the brewery’s atmosphere and beer to a pub you would find in the UK, noting that it’s like walking into someone’s home.

“The bar reminds me of a pub that you would find in an English village…. It’s cozy, quaint, small; you go in there and sip your beer and you just chat with folks,” Dr. Guertin-Martin said in the article. “Forest & Main kind of embodies that vibe.”

One of Dr. Guertin-Martin’s research areas focuses on corporate crime within the beer industry. He teaches the University Seminar “Untapped: Exploring the Sociocultural and Scientific World of Beer,” which introduces students to the world of craft beer through the cultural, historical, social, and political dimensions of the industry, in addition to the science and technology used in the brewing process. Students trace the historical legacy of beer, explore the contemporary beer industry, and examine the brewing process by embarking on their own home brewing. The course is offered during the spring semester to students over the age of 21, and includes visits to local craft breweries.
