Arcadia University Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy Phil McClure, PT, PhD, FAPTA, received the 2024 John H.P. Maley Lecture Award from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). The recipient of this annual award is invited to deliver a lecture considered to be one of the highlights of APTA programming.

Dr. McClure presented at July 21’s APTA’s national event in Kansas City, Mo. Titled “The Movement System and Diagnosis — Are We There Yet?,” his lecture examined the movement system as the foundational concept for physical therapy practice, education, and research. Dr. McClure analyzed the question “How are we doing?” within the context of the profession and led discussion around potential ways forward in the field of physical therapy.

Each year, the John H.P. Maley Lecture Award recognizes an APTA physical therapist who has demonstrated their clinical expertise and made significant contributions within the field of physical therapy. Recipients receive a certificate of recognition and an honorarium, and they are responsible for giving a lecture that can cover anything related to clinical practice and address the ideas that promote physical therapy.

Dr. McClure has published over 70 peer-reviewed research articles and numerous book chapters. His research centers around the biomechanical analysis of the shoulder. This includes studies of spinal biomechanics, scapular dysfunction, rotator cuff disorders, and shoulder functional performance testing.
