In recognition of more than 36 years of distinguished teaching and scholarly accomplishments, Dr. Wayne Morra, professor of economics in the School of Global Business, has been named Professor Emeritus at Arcadia University. Dr. Morra has served the University community since 1982 and has taught each Master of Business Administration cohort since the program’s inception.

Dr. Morra chaired the Business Administration, Economics, and Health Administration Department at Arcadia from 2011 to 2014 and the Business and Economics Department from 1993 to 1994. In addition to offering micro-, macro-, intermediate, bio-, managerial, and urban economics courses, Dr. Morra leads a Global Field Studies course that examines Dominica’s alternative energy demands and tourism industry.

While researching natural resources and biodiversity, Dr. Morra has been an active supporter of Bioko Biodiversity Protection, a program that promotes the conservation of endangered species on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. Dr. Morra was co-director of the program from 1998 to 2007 and continues to examine the economic factors influencing bushmeat hunting in the region.

Additionally, Dr. Morra served as director of Arcadia’s study abroad program at Universidad Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial (UNGE) from 2002 to 2007. In 1999, he received the University’s Frank and Evelyn Steinbrucker Endowed Chair, a two-year position held by a distinguished faculty member, to strengthen Arcadia’s ties with UNGE through interdisciplinary courses, environmental education, and humanitarian practices aimed at reducing the demand for bushmeat on Bioko Island and in Equatorial Guinea.

A leader on campus, Dr. Morra also chaired Faculty Council and Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Undergraduate Academic Program, and Institutional Research committees. He was a member of Strategic Planning, Promotion & Tenure, Presidential Evaluation, and International committees, and assisted curriculum, technology, and student affairs task forces.

At various points in his career, Dr. Morra directed the University’s Academic Data, Institutional Research, and Honors programs. He coached women’s softball from 1982 to 1993.

In 1983, Dr. Morra received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
