Genetic Counseling Alumni to Present at National Conference
This November, 21 Arcadia Genetic Counseling alumni will present research at the 37th annual National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) conference in Atlanta, Ga. Through lectures, panel discussions, platform presentations, and poster sessions, the conference will spotlight advancements across the genetic counseling field to educate, build community, and encourage networking from Nov. 14 to 17.
Out of 48 total presentations, four NSGC research discussions will be led by Arcadia alumni:
- Assistant Professor Lisa Kessler ’00M will discuss using standardized patients to enhance genetic counseling graduate training.
- Cara Cacioppo ’16M, a counselor in the Telegenetics Program at the University of Pennsylvania, will present on remote genetics services such as telemedicine, a rapidly expanding option in health care. Cacioppo gave a preview of her research when she presented to first and second-year Genetic Counseling students during a back-to-school event on Aug. 30.
- Jillian Lineburg ’18M will present her thesis research on Amish and Mennonite attitudes toward medical photography.
- Erin Wadman ’18M will focus her presentation on moral distress in Genetic Counseling, a field that often deals with difficult emotional situations and ethical questions.
In addition, 17 alumni— including Class of 2018 graduates with outstanding thesis research— will host poster presentations during the conference: Eileen Barr ’18M, Zoe Bogus ’18M, Natalie Burrill, ’18M, Jessica Isaacs ’18M, Mary-Kate Jones ’18M, Chau Nguyen ’18M, and Alex Petterson ’18M, Tanya Bardakjian ’97M, Morgan Depas ’09M, Kaylee Faulkner Naczi ’16M, Heather Sellers Fecteau ’09M, Brooke Levenseller Levin ’13M, Kimberly Rutledge Matthijssen ’14M, Dayna Morel Swols ’14M, Amanda Schott ’15M, Abigail Weinberg ’15M, and Jessica Zoladz ’06M.
