Senior Seminar Students to Debut Custom Fruited IPA at Ten7 Brewery on April 25
Students in Dr. Favian Martín’s senior seminar will be debuting their newly brewed beer on April 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Ten7 Brewery in North Wales. “Fav Around And Find Out,” the hazy IPA created by the class and named for its instructor, will be available exclusively at Ten7 following the launch party.
The class, called Untapped: Exploring the Socio-Cultural and Scientific World of Beer, gives seniors the opportunity to learn about the history of beer and its impact on society as well as an explanation of the more scientific side; “everything from fermentation to how adjunct flavors affect a beer,” explains Eric DeLorenzo, a Biology major planning to continue his education in Arcadia’s Physical Therapy program in the fall. He expresses that “this class is an amazing opportunity to take a step back from my heavy bio major classes while still learning new information during my senior year!”
Students in the class also have the opportunity to create their own beer recipe and brew it at a local craft brewery. This year, the class created a fruited IPA with mango, peach, and strawberry flavors. “We had an idea for a hazy IPA, using the haze to distract from the bitter taste associated with an IPA,” says Robert Carter, a Sport Management major. “We chose [mango, peach, and strawberry] to give it a more pleasant flavor and aftertaste.”
Rylee Becker, a Psychology major, created the artwork. Of the design, she says, “The main design comes from our professor Fav, who is known for his daily attire of a beanie and scarf. He is very well loved by our class, so I thought it would be fitting to include him in the design. As for the color choice, I picked colors that best reflected the flavors we were using.”
