So Much To Do, So Little Time!
Coming to college means leaving your old routine, and often the town you have grown to know well, and moving to a place where opportunities are unknown. You might be giving up some of your old hobbies, clubs, or familiar activities. But, the thought of stopping your current pastime activities might not be the frightening part of the whole thing. It could be figuring out what you are going to replace those activities with.
Lucky for you, as small as Arcadia may be, it is packed with events and activities. There are countless ways to get involved and if you know the right resources, your schedule will get filled pretty quickly. I can assure you that if you want to get involved, there are many ways to do so. In this blog I am going to shed light on the many campus ‘programming’ initiatives that are going on so you can come into your college career confident you will not be bored in your room the entire time.
The biggest events are usually put on by SGO – the Student Government Organization, the Student Programming Board, and Campus Life. These events range from the Welcome Back Carnival or our very own Woodstock to the Winter Gala and Get Lit! These events are usually massive, with loads of free food, carnival rides, animals to pet, and a variety of activities. They will often last many hours so students of all types of schedules can attend. These bigger events have become a sort of tradition at Arcadia where students look forward to them happening every year they are here.
On a smaller scale, but still just as important to Arcadia’s culture, there are Bingo Nights. You’d be surprised to know that Bingo is one of the most popular events on our campus and often gets the most attendance of everything hosted by Arcadia. There are loads of fun prizes and different themes for every bingo night. There are also plenty of them throughout the year, so you will never be short of opportunities to win.
Taking a step back from major, often popular, and busy events run by Arcadia, there are also loads of smaller-scale, more intimate events happening almost every day. When you live on campus, you will have a Resident Assistant. Of course, they are there to support you throughout your year at Arcadia, but one job they have you may not know about is ‘programming’. This means putting together slightly smaller, but equally fun events, throughout the week for students to attend. There is a lot of fluidity in these programs and Resident Assistants try very hard to build events that residents want to see. There have been mini golf tournaments, pool tournaments, movie nights, pajama parties, murder mysteries, painting nights, and so much more. These are very frequent and anyone is welcome to attend them. If there is something you would want to see during your time at Arcadia, you could even let the campus life team know and they will do their best to make it happen!
All of the events I have listed above are very well talked about so there is not a chance you could miss them – especially the big ones! But just in case emails and word of mouth aren’t your thing, there are plenty of flyers posted around campus for you to get in the loop on different activities on campus. Needless to say, there are plenty of ways to get involved on campus. These are all ways that you can attend events as a student without putting in any work. You can just show up, and enjoy the free food and goodies! But if you are interested in hosting events of your own, you can certainly get involved with SGO or the Honors Program to accomplish those goals. You can learn more about how to do that here.
