Fashion in the University Archives…
This Beaver College bucket hat from 1941 is accompanied by two patches, one from 1949 and another from an unknown date. Bucket hats were made popular first for the practical use for fishermen and farmers, then gained use within the second World War to shield soldiers’ necks from the sun (Yong). The patches most likely were worn on sweaters and jackets by members of the college’s athletics departments and extracurricular activities or clubs.
