Campus Spotlight: Murphy Hall
Murphy Hall, while not in the heart of campus, is a hidden gem that seemingly only Media and Communication and Art students know.
Once the stables of the Harrison estate, Murphy Hall now houses the metals and jewelry studio, graphic design lab, video production lab, Stiteler auditorium, and several classrooms and offices. One door of the elaborately constructed maze that is Murphy leads straight into the ceramics room, where you may see students working diligently with tubs of clay. Go up the stairs and make a few turns to discover the photography studio, equipped with a darkroom for photography students.
The first floor of Murphy Hall features our digital fabrication lab and video production lab, as well as the video equipment rental room. The video production studio contains two rooms with large Macbooks equipped with Adobe software for students to freely use.
The hallways are spotted with student work, such as articles written by Publication Practicum students, product designs, art, and screens showcasing student short films. A giant whiteboard sports student drawings and questions left for passersby to respond to.
Up the stairs is the Stiteler auditorium, a large space that facilitates productions such as Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Though Murphy Hall may be out of the way for some, it is definitely worth a visit if you want to check out what students have been working on creatively, want to explore the maze-like hallways, or need a space to just chill out!
