Undercover Senior Sneaks Onto Tour: Days & Knights Admitted Students Day
If you’re not familiar with Days and Knights, it’s an Arcadia University event for admitted Arcadia students! There admitted students can connect with faculty, explore study-abroad opportunities, tour campus, and so much more. It’s a fun day highlighting everything that makes attending Arcadia awesome and gives students a taste of what their life could be like here.
As a senior, I remember what it was like attending Days and Knights, and how that experience solidified my decision to attend Arcadia. This was a decision for which I’m forever grateful. I was curious what Days and Knights looks like now, and if it was worth checking out! Being an upperclassman, these events aren’t usually broadcast to us, and this is exactly why I decided to sneak onto a tour group.
By sneak, I mean, I asked the student ambassador in charge of the tour if I could tag along, but sneaking sounds more fun.
I woke up early, got dressed, and headed out to the event. By the time I got there, there were tour groups all around campus. The tricky part was figuring out which one to infiltrate. I roamed around for a bit, checking the vibe of each tour group. I eventually saw a lovely tour group walking near the library, and I just decided to go for it!
After I got permission from the student ambassador, I made my way to the back of the tour group. Of course, I’ve seen all of the tour locations before, but it was awesome seeing how engaged these admitted students were. Not only students but also the family members! This is how I met Daphne.
Daphne is the mother of an admitted student named Amira, and she and Amira’s father were attending Days and Knights and seemed to be having a great time. I decided to chat with Daphne about her experience of the event, and what she thought about Arcadia so far.
“Everyone here is so nice, and they answer all our questions without making us feel dumb or anything like that,” she said.
She really enjoyed the reception of Arcadia and discussed how her daughter was exploring something within the Media and Communication track. I thought this was amazing news, and shared that I was a Media and Communication student myself. I was able to give insight into the Department of Media and Communication, and that was unexpected, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.
Eventually, I caught up with Amira, and was able to do a quick audio interview with her about her day and what she thought about the school so far.
Amira is 18 years old and goes to Philadelphia Academy Charter High School. She’s also a national honors society student, and does media work within her High School to fundraise for kids with Pediatric cancer. I ended up finding out this was her second tour of Arcadia, and that this event is making her consider committing to this University.
“I like how personal this school seems to be,” Amira said. “When I was younger I went to a big public school, so there were a lot of students vs teachers, here it’s like the opposite of that. So I think I really enjoy, like a personal environment.”
She gave me a rundown of how her day went, which started with a financial meeting. This gave her some insight into the logistics around cost. Then she attended a mock first-year seminar, which was all about cults and how/why people would join a cult, and she seemed to enjoy it.
After talking with Amira and her family, it made me hopeful for the next batch of Arcadia students. Especially since I won’t be around to see if Amira comes back in the Fall! Whether you’re Amira or another admitted student at Arcadia, I hope you enjoyed Days and Knights. I know I definitely did.
