Working Out, Group X Style
As a college student, finding time and motivation to work out can be hard. With exams to study for and homework to complete, working out is sometimes the last thing I want to do.
Throughout this semester, I have been seeing posters around campus advertising the new Group X Fitness classes. This week I finally decided to try them out.
“Whether you love dancing, yoga, or just want to try something new, the Group X Fitness classes offer something for everyone.”
Sing and Sweat: Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
Just like it sounds, this class lets you sing your heart out and sweat while doing so. The class is an hour, but doesn’t feel that long because of how much fun it is. With popular songs, disco lights, and fun dances, this class is definitely something I would recommend. And best of all, you won’t even notice the sweat and the burn. Enjoy!
Classical Pilates: Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
Unfortunately due to the lack of participants, I wasn’t able to take this class.
All-Levels Power Yoga: Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
From the moment I stepped into the room, I felt a sense of calm, mindfulness, and ease. The practice was an hour long and involved lots of different poses such as upward dog, downward dog, mountain pose, Warrior 2, and Shavasana. The poses were divided into sections focusing on particular breathing methods and muscle groups. As a first-timer, I really enjoyed the class and could definitely see myself taking it again. The class helped me relax and work out and gave me a new appreciation for the art of yoga.
Zumba: Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
Although this was not my first time taking Zumba, I still absolutely loved it! Zumba is a dance-based fitness class focusing on Latin-inspired cardio movements. The hour-long class feels like you are at a dance party. For dancers and non-dancers, Zumba is a class made for everyone.
Overall, I would definitely recommend all of the Group X fitness classes at Arcadia and will be taking them again. In addition to the physical benefits, the group fitness classes allowed me to feel comfortable, challenged, and motivated. The instructors were all so welcoming and helpful and made the classes that much better. Whether you love dancing, yoga, or just want to try something new, the Group X Fitness classes offer something for everyone.
The best part is they are completely FREE. Simply log in or register (Arcadia University as the School/Organization), and click the button that says ‘Group X” in the top left corner next to your initials. You can click through the days of the week and see which classes are available, or click each class to see a description and instructor information. Hit the Register button, and you are all set. Keep in mind that registration closes 30 minutes before the class begins.
Hope to see you there soon!
